The Whole Story

So, what’s the deal with alpacas?

The story of Tumalo Coffeehouse is inseparable from the land — and from the alpacas who helped shape everything you see here.

Tumalo Coffeehouse is part of a family of businesses founded by Amanda, whose life’s work has been deeply rooted in alpacas, agriculture, and education. For decades, Amanda has been internationally respected in the alpaca industry as a breeder, judge, and advocate, helping elevate alpaca fiber as one of the world’s most sustainable and functional natural materials.

That work began on her Central Oregon alpaca farm — now home to Flying Dutchman Alpacas — where stewardship, animal welfare, and long-term thinking are daily practices, not buzzwords. Over time, that same philosophy expanded outward: into alpaca fiber products, education, hospitality, and community spaces designed to bring people closer to where things come from.

Tumalo Coffeehouse exists as an extension of that belief. Just as alpacas produce exceptional fiber through patience, care, and partnership with the land, this coffeehouse was built to be intentional, welcoming, and grounded in place. It’s a space where locals gather, travelers pause, and conversations flow — all connected by a shared respect for craft, community, and the Central Oregon landscape.

So whether you arrived here for coffee, conversation, or curiosity, know that the alpacas aren’t just a fun detail — they’re part of the foundation. A reminder that good things take time, care, and a deep connection to the land we’re lucky enough to call home.
